SHERMAN Sherman is an approx. 9 month old male Wheatable. Best guess is a Wheaten/Beardie mix. He was seized from his last owner by animal control on a cruelty charge. He was being kept tied outside with no shelter, in the cold, and there was no food or water for him when they showed up either. They showed me the tieout he was cut from, one of those type that has the metal inside that is covered with plastic. It was all balled and twisted up and he had been stuck in it. Sherman was terrified in the shelter, I found him cowering in the back of his run whining and crying. It took an hour of talking and reassuring for him to approach me and allow some careful petting but I did get a small lick on my fingers. We will have to do some more evaluating on his temperment when we get him out of the shelter environment and calmed down. However he did not attempt to bite at the shelter and the personnel there told me they had not seen any of that either. Sherman's coat is a mess, his hind quarters are matted badly, and he will most likely have to be shaved. This picture at the bottom is one that the shelter took. He will be UTD on shots and neutered prior to placement and he will be located in the Kansas City area 1/17/04 UPDATE Sherman is now out of the shelter and has been groomed. Thankfully the groomer was able to save his coat from complete shaving. Sherman has a thick, plush coat that feels like running your fingers through crushed velvet. He is a beautiful dog. The minute Sherman left the shelter you could see a complete change come over him. He instantly became a little flying goofball jumping all over me and giving lots and lots of kisses, this puppy does not have a mean bone in his body. The groomer 'complained' that it took twice as long to groom him because all he wanted to do was give kisses and PLAY. I think she kept stopping to play with him because he is just so darn cute! Sherman has a very strong, outgoing personality and will need a owner with a strong presence and who is committed to training. We feel that a home with children over 14 years of age who have lived with dogs before will be best for Sherman. May 2004 - A FOREVER HOME Sherman has been adopted by Liz Johnson of Missouri - CONGRATULATI0NS! |
