SPARKY

Sparky is 8 month old male purebred Wheaten
Terrier.

Sparky has had a hard time in his first 8 months. He
was born in a puppymill in Florida and then bought
in a petstore and given to a young girl as a present.

Soon this girl decided the puppy was too much work
and he was dumped on her roommates mother to
take care of until she moved. Guess what? She
never came back for the puppy.

Sparky was able to escape from the yard he was
being kept in and soon got in a fight with a male
neighborhood dog. The owner of the other dog got
into the middle of the fight and got bit. No one can
say for sure which dog bit but the owner of the other
dog of course blamed Sparky so he was picked up
by animal control and taken to a local shelter.

Unfortunately for Sparky, he had never been given
his rabies shot so he was impounded for
observation for 10 days.

We were contacted by the person who had been
taking care of Sparky when she found out that they
shelter would charge her nearly $300 in fines and
boarding fees in order for her to get him out of the
shelter, and that if she did not pull him out it was
very likely that they would put him to sleep as he
was accused of biting. However, they told her they
would consider releasing him to rescue at the end
of the quarantine period. The girl who owned him
had no interest in getting him out of the shelter,
even if it meant his being put to sleep.

After many frantic phone calls and negotiations, we
were able to get the shelter to release him after we
paid for his neuter and rabies shot at the shelter, a
very small price to pay to save the life of this
precious little puppy.

He had previously been given his other shots, just
not the rabies so his is UTD on shots.

As you can see by the pictures, Sparky is severely
matted and he will be going in to be completely
shaved down. He is recovering nicely from his
neuter and is in a wonderful foster home who are
taking great care of him while he waits for the
perfect forever home for him. I will post more
photos after he has been cleaned up and shaved
down. Thankfully his coat will grow back and with
good food and care he will again be a beautiful
puppy.

Sparky is currently located in Scottsdale, AZ

Oct. 1, 2002 Update

Today Sparky had a trip to the groomer. Because of
his recent neuter he could not be bathed yet but we
felt he could not wait to get all that matted, smelly
hair off so he was shaved down and cleaned up. The
groomer pulled a 4" wad of matted black fur out of
one of his ears and quite a bit out of the other! His
foster mom reports that he can now hear her much
better.

As you can see he looks 100% better already and has
a very handsome face. Give him a little time and this
is going to be one beautiful boy!
