KALEY

Kaley is a 1 year old purebred Soft Coated Wheaten
Terrier.

Kaley was a owner turn-in who said it was due to
allergies.

However we have come to find out she actually has a
much more interesting story to tell. The previous
owner listed that she had a slight "incontinence"
problem and had to take a daily pill. We requested
her previous vet fax her medical records and found
some interesting information.

Technically Kaley is a male dog. She is what is
termed a psuedohermaphrodite. The way we are
understanding this is that it means although her
physical appearance is female, inside she has the
workings of a male, including testicles and a penis
that was inside. A true hermaphrodite would have
had both female and male organs internally. This
condition was discovered when the dog was taken in
to be spayed. The testicles and penis were removed
and she did not have any female organs, uterus or
ovaries.

Since her outward appearance is female and all her
male organs were removed during the operation, we
are going to continue to refer to her as female. We
believe that is easier than trying to explain why the
male puppy has no penis.

We are having her examined by another vet to make
sure everything was done properly but she will live a
long healthy life regardless of what sex she
technically is.
